A species-appropriate and balanced diet plays an important role in the prevention of deficiency symptoms, diseases and secondary diseases in hamsters. This also applies to our rodents, whose well-being is closely linked to their diet.

In the wild, hamsters eat mainly vegetarian seeds, fruits, stems and leaves of certain plants, as well as occasionally animal protein, such as insects. To ensure optimal nutrition for pets, hamster food should consist of four main ingredients: cereals, vegetables, herbs, flowers and animal protein.

Cereals, seeds and vegetables are important energy and vitamin suppliers that contribute to covering nutrient needs. Herbs, in turn, provide valuable fiber and promote digestion. In addition, animal protein supports cell and muscle formation in hamsters.

It is important to ensure a balanced blend to ensure what he needs for a healthy life. Such a balanced diet can minimize the risk of deficiency symptoms and sequelae and improve the quality of life of your pet.

Important information:

  1. A high-quality hamster food should form the basis of the diet of your golden hamster. Make sure it is balanced.
  2. Fresh food and vegetables: Goldhamsters love fresh plants and vegetables. Give your hamster only small amounts. However, avoid avocado, citrus fruits and onions, as they can be toxic. Fruit should be fed only rarely (fruit sugar)
  3. Avoid too much sugar and too much fat: Hamsters are susceptible to diabetes and obesity.
  4. Always provide your hamster with fresh water. Change the water daily and clean the drinks regularly.
  5. Fresh hay should also be available to the hamsters daily.

6: No junk food: Avoid feeding human food or junk food to your hamster, as it can cause health problems.
